Self-healing concrete using bacteria has been created! The concrete mix contains bacteria that grows to fill in the cracks when water seeps into the concrete through its ruptures.

I am sure that this concrete will decrease the estimated  $3.6 trillion infrastructure investment in the US. We will save on the labor and material cost. Plus, there will be savings in traveling time by not closing off areas that need to be repaired.

Now that we have self-healing concrete, we need self-healing asphalt. 25% of LA roads get an F grade from the Bureau of Street Services. There are pot holes that are the size of mortar damage seen in war zones.

Self-healing asphalt will not only decrease the cost of vehicle maintenance but save lives through safer driving! Hope this bacteria can also live in asphalt 😀
