Hipster bank that caters to the young adults is here. It is good that the Dime Bank is going back to its roots of building relationships in the community. The soft information generated from community focus and relationships do add value to the bank’s bottom line and the community. However, I am not sure if Dime Bank is providing so much value to its potential customers. The website seems bland and the services do not seem to differ from any big bank. I think Dime could distinguish itself from other banks by providing more tailored financial advice/ education. It could may be partner with Mint.com and show how the budget well. If they want to get creative, they can offer unique rewards with more deposits such as double interest month, matching contribution to deposit, or free credit check.
Overall, it is good to see a community bank trying to innovate. I look forward to its progress.
