A great article showing that China made ball pen technology recently but the real problem is lack of intellectual protection.

The author is absolutely right that China cannot advance further without strong IP.

But then again, Tencent and Alibaba are very innovative. So — even without strong IP,

some Chinese firms are doing very well. However, with more IP, it is likely they would

do better.

But how would China balance the not so friendly IP companies firms vs. the innovative ones.

Great question- For now, I believe that China will slowly moving to IP because its firms

has benefitted a lot from slack IP laws.

But in the long run, China will have to overcome this problem if it wants to foster

innovation and create value.
